The man who helped catch the suspected Monsey attacker back was recognized Thursday night at an event in Williamsburg, not just for his heroic actions that day, but also for refusing to accept money from “Zionists”. Josef Gluck was supposed to receive a $20,000 reward from the Jewish Federation of Rockland County and the Anti-Defamation League. However, Gluck told News12 that “after consulting with his rabbi, he decided to reject that money because he says it comes from Zionist organizations that don’t represent the beliefs and values of their community.” “I was not willing to offer my soul for $20,000”, Gluck told News12. Instead, $20,000 was raised from community members and presented to Gluck at a ceremony in Williamsburg on Thursday night.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is endorsing Bernie Sanders for president, a move that puts de Blasio in a position to become a leading voice in opposition to Sanders’ newest rival, Mike Bloomberg, his predecessor in leading the nation’s largest city. De Blasio, an unabashed liberal who was elected in 2013, will campaign for Sanders in Nevada this weekend, the Sanders campaign said Friday in a news release. De Blasio hopes to be a significant surrogate for Sanders four years after he dithered about his presidential endorsement and, late in the primary process, backed Hillary Clinton instead of the Vermont senator, who shared far more of his ideology. “I am standing with Bernie because he stands with working families, and always has,” de Blasio said in the news release.

Billionaire Mike Bloomberg’s presidential campaign on Saturday downplayed a report that he is considering 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as his pick for vice president. The Drudge Report, citing a source close to Bloomberg’s campaign, reported that Clinton was under consideration after internal polling found that a Bloomberg-Clinton ticket would be a “formidable force.” The conservative news aggregator, which came to prominence in the 90s for first reporting the Monica Lewinsky scandal, reported that Bloomberg would consider changing his residence to a home he owns in Colorado or Florida, “since the electoral college makes it hard for a POTUS and VPOTUS from the same state.” But the Bloomberg campaign quickly tamped down that report but fell short of denying it outright.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited the White House on Thursday in the hope he could persuade President Donald Trump to reverse a decision to boot New Yorkers from programs that allow travelers to avoid long lines at the U.S. border. The Democratic governor and Republican president met Thursday to discuss their dispute over New York’s new “Green Light” law, which lets unauthorized immigrants obtain state driver’s licenses and also bars federal immigration agents from accessing state motor vehicle records. The Trump administration said that cutoff from state records threatened public safety, and responded by blocking New Yorkers from enrolling in Global Entry and other “trusted traveler” programs. New York then sued over its expulsion.

As part of a First Lego Competition held at Woodmere Middle School on February 9, children were working on projects related to local buildings. In the video below you will see and hear a student relaying information about one local building which she says was “purchased by the United Hebrew Community of New York.” Without skipping a beat, one anti-Semite teacher/judge turns to the other and says “G-d (expletive removed) Jews” and carries on as though her commentary was necessary. In a statement to YWN, Dov Hikind, the Founder of Americans Against Antisemitism says they are “calling on the school to have this teacher disciplined immediately. It’s unconscionable that we would allow “educators” with such hate ready to spew around impressionable children.

New York’s governor plans to propose to President Donald Trump that the state could share some driving records with federal immigration agencies if the administration reverses its move to block state residents from Global Entry and other programs that allow travelers to avoid long border security lines. Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he plans to meet with Trump on Thursday; the White House confirmed the meeting. Cuomo said he would only propose giving federal officials access to the state driving records of applicants to traveler programs who undergo a sit-down interview with federal officials and supply documents such as a passport.

A state senator said Wednesday that some Democrats are considering a plan that would make changes to New York’s law that largely eliminated cash bail for misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies by giving more discretion to judges. State Sen. Todd Kaminsky, a Democrat of Long Island, said that the changes that the changes would totally eliminate cash bail but provide judges more power over which people can be held in jail. “It removes wealth from the system,” he said. For certain crimes, he said, a judge could consider whether the person arrested will cause serous physical injury and their likelihood to returning to court. Newsday reports the plan appears to have the support of Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

The man who is alleged to be the vicious anti-semite behind the recently shutdown “Rise Up Ocean COunty” Facebook page is headed to prison. Richard Ciullo was sentenced to 60 days in jail for check fraud. It appears the 60 days will be served by weekends. Cioullo allegedly used his Facebook page to sow hatred and bash Jews for all types of fraud they never committed – including the very crimes he is now doing time for. In 2014 he was arrested for deceiving customers and passing bad checks at his advertising businesses out of $3,000. Just last week YWN reported that Facebook finally removed the hate page.
