Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi dismissed critics who say that moving forward with impeachment will undercut the Biden administration’s message of unity. “I don’t think it’s very unifying to say oh, let’s just forget it and move on. That’s not how you unify,” Pelosi said. Pelosi also said it’s the responsibility of Congress to hold Former President Donald Trump accountable for inciting rioters who attacked on the US Capitol. Trump is awaiting his second impeachment trial — Pelosi said she’s discussing the timing with the impeachment managers she named on when the article of impeachment will be sent to the Senate. A shocking incident occurred in Banei Brak on Thursday evening, and police are responding in force. Sources tell YWN that undercover police officers were spotted inside the Vishnitz Merkaz (Reb Mendel) building on Ezra Street near Shlomo Hamelech Steet for some type of COVID enforcement. Infuriated that Police were inside the building, dozens of Bochrim chased the two police officers outside and physically attacked them. They then began violently attacking the police car. Shocking footage has emerged of the attack, as the Bochrim used wooden sticks to smash the windows, break the mirrors, and try opening the door and dragging the officers out. The officers managed to drive away, and are being treated in a hospital for injuries.

In a show of unity and bipartisanship, the three former president who attended Wednesday’s inauguration recorded a video while they were at Arlington National Cemetery earlier in the day. Former President Barack Obama kicked off the discussion, noting his pride in watching his former vice president and the first Black, South Asian American and female vice president being sworn into office. Then the group turned to address the day’s theme of unity. “I think that the fact that the three of us are standing here talking about a peaceful transfer of power speaks to the institutional integrity of our country,” said former President George W. Bush.

Israel’s Health Ministry recommended on Tuesday that pregnant women be vaccinated following a rash of cases of pregnant women becoming critically ill after contracting the virus, a phenomenon that health officials believe is linked to the British virus variant. The British variant is rapidly spreading through Israel, particularly in the Chareidi sector. There are currently ten pregnant women – all Chareidi – who are critically ill after contracting the coronavirus. It has been confirmed that at least three of the women, and very possibly more, were carrying the British variant after Dr.

After consulting with HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky on Wednesday and speaking with leaders of Jewish kehillos around the world, Israel’s Chief Rabbi Rav Dovid Lau declared Thursday as a day for a world tefillah to end the pandemic. The tefilla will be led by HaRav Lau (without a congregation due to health regulations) at Kever Rochel on Thursday at 4 p.m. (Israeli time) and will be broadcast live. At the same time, public tefillos will be held in Jewish communities in countries throughout the world. Those who can fast until chatzos should do so. “The pandemic has grown considerably worse in recent days and ‘outside the sword bereaves and terror reigns within,'” wrote Rav Lau. “Terrible disasters are befalling us every day.

President Joe Biden said his predecessor left him a “very generous letter” before departing office. Speaking from behind the Resolute Desk, Biden said he would not reveal the contents of the letter out of respect for former President Donald Trump. “The President wrote a very generous letter,” Biden said. “Because it was private I will not talk about it until I talk to him.” Meanwhile, Biden signed a total of 17 executive orders and actions in the Oval Office on Wednesday evening. The orders will overturn several Trump-era orders, and were diverse in their impact, ranging from a mask mandate on all federal property to revisions of directives introduced by former President Donald Trump, including halting the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Following a 1:00AM pardon by former President Donald Trump, Eli Weinstein of Lakewood and Shalom Weiss were both been freed from prison on Wednesday afternoon. Weinstein had served 8 years of a 22 year sentence. Weiss had served 18 years of a 835 year sentence. Moshe Margaretten of the Tzedek Association was extremely instrumental in securing both of their releases from prison. Margaretten was at the prison when Weiss was released, and spoke via video-chat to Weinstein when he was released.

President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in on Wednesday as the next president of the United States on an Inauguration Day that will look like no other in modern history. In a major break with tradition, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will not welcome Biden and incoming first lady Jill Biden to the White House and will not attend the inauguration ceremony at the US Capitol. The coronavirus pandemic that continues to devastate the nation has also altered inauguration planning. Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will still take the oath of office on the West Front of the Capitol, but the ceremony will be significantly scaled down and health and safety protocols will be put in place to minimize the risk of spreading the virus.

President Trump on Tuesday granted clemency to 143 people, including well-connected celebrities and nonviolent drug offenders – but did not preemptively pardon himself or his family. Two of those pardoned of most interest to the Jewish community are Eli Weinstein of Lakewood, and Sholom Weiss formerly of Boro Park. Weiss was the recipient of what is believed to be the longest-ever white-collar prison sentence – more than 800 years in prison in 2000. In a statement, the Trump Administration said: Eliyahu Weinstein – President Trump commuted the sentence of Eliyahu Weinstein. This commutation is supported by former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman, former Representative Bob Barr, former U.S.

NY Governor Cuomo spoke with Alan Chartock of Northwest Public Radio on Tuesday, just hours before Trump was scheduled to issue a slew of pardons. On that list was Former NY Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and speculation was running high that Silver would be given a pardon. Cuomo was asked about it on the radio, and this was his shocking response: “On what theory would Trump even know a Sheldon Silver, and what possible connection or rationale – it’s almost as if he’s trying to purposely create anarchy and desecrate the entire system on the way out the door…..” “It could just be a favor for some contact, a favor for someone in the Jewish community, a favor for a donor….” Cuomo is a bigot.
