After serving as the head of the NYPD for nearly a year and a half, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced her decision to step down, according to sources familiar with the matter.
In an email addressed to the department on Monday, Sewell expressed her gratitude for the shared experiences of facing immense tragedy, challenges, and victories together during her tenure. She commended the officers for their daily acts of compassion, heroism, and selflessness, acknowledging them as an exceptional group of dedicated public servants committed to the safety of the city. The email emphasized the importance of the officers’ ongoing work in securing the city and fostering strong partnerships with communities and other organizations.

The Food and Drug Administration on Friday blocked 10 companies from marketing or distributing 6,500 flavored e-liquid and e-cigarette products, part of its campaign against tobacco products being marketed to youths.
The agency said the product applications covered a variety of flavored e-cigarettes, including some with flavors such as Citrus and Strawberry Cheesecake, as well as Cool Mint and Menthol. The FDA said the companies in question did not provide sufficient evidence that marketing the products would be appropriate for public health.

Michigan seventh-grader Dillon Reeves is being hailed as a hero after saving a busload of his peers from peril.
While delivering children from Carter Middle School back to their respective homes on Wednesday, a school bus driver “became lightheaded and lost consciousness while the bus was traveling on Masonic Boulevard near Bunert Road,” said Warren Consolidated School District superintendent Robert Livernois in a statement.
Although not yet old enough for a driver’s license, Reeves proved he wasn’t too young to save the day.

i24 News – At exactly 10:00 am on Holocaust Remembrance Day, the state of Israel stood still to observe the memory of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis during World War II.
No matter where people were, where they were driving, or what they were doing, everyone was united in a moment of silence.

Police are searching for thieves who they say stole an estimated two million dimes worth $200,000 from a tractor-trailer in a Walmart parking lot in Philadelphia.
A truck driver who picked up $750,000 worth of dimes from the Philadelphia Mint on Wednesday parked his truck in a Walmart parking lot and went home to sleep before a long drive to Florida. When he went to get the truck the next morning, he found the trailer door open and dimes scattered all over the ground, according to a report by WPVI.
“They were trying to cross-load the dimes into other things. There are dimes all over the parking lot,” Philadelphia Police Department Captain Jack Ryan told reporters.
