Successor to his father, Rav Nachum, the Meor Einayim, he became the son-in-law of Rav Aharon  the Great of Karlin and subsequently of Rav Dovid Seirkes. His eight sons all became major Chasidic leaders. One of them married the daughter of Rav Dov Ber of Lubavitch.

Rav Naftali Tzvi of Ropshitz, author of Ayalah Sheluchah and Zera Kodesh, (1760-1827). When R’ Naftali decided to join the chassidic movement he chose Rav Elimelech of Lizhensk as his mentor. He subsequently became a dedicated chasid of the Chozeh of Lublin, the Maggid of Koznitz, and Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Rymanov. Foremost among his talmidim is Rav Chaim of Sanz. His son, Rav Yaakov, was the author of the sefer Zerah Yaakov.

Rav Yeshaya Steiner of Kerestir (1851-1925). (Reb Yeshayale Kerestirer) Born in Zbarav, Hungary, he lost his father at the age of 3. When he was 12, he was taken by his mother to Rav Tzvi Hirsch of Liska, the Ach Pri Tevua, whom he succeeded as Rav of Liska. He himself was succeeded by his son, Rav Avraham.

Rabbeinu Yosef Halevi ibn Migash (Rimigash), talmid of the Rif (1077-1141). As head of the famous academy of Lucena, Spain, R’ Yosef taught numerous disciples including Rabbi Maimon, father of Rambam. Rambam’s praise of R’ Yosef in uncharacteristically ecstatic. “The depth and scope of his wisdom astound all who study his words” said the Rambam. Having absorbed R’ Yosef’s teachings from his father, Rambam refers to R’ Yosef as “my teacher”.

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Mordechai Marcus zt”l. He was 78 years old.
Rav Marcus, rov of the Lakewood Minyan in Flatbush, was one of Brooklyn’s most prominent talmidei chachomim.
In his younger years, Rav Marcus was a talmid at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yaakov Yosef (RJJ). Even as a young ben Torah, he was already recognized for his brilliance. It was said that even the rabbeim respected Rav Marcus, knowing that in a moment he could refute a sevara or shlog up a shiur.

yahrtzeit-candlesRav Moshe Pallier of Kobrin (1784-1858). A close follower of the Rebbe, Rav Mordechai of Lechovitch and his son, Rav Noach, he became the first  Rebbe of the Kobrin dynasty in 1833. His teachings are collected in Imros Taharos.
