The U.S. leads the world in developing artificial intelligence technology, surpassing China in research and other important measures of AI innovation, according to a newly released Stanford University index. There’s no surefire way to rank global AI leadership but Stanford researchers have made an attempt by measuring the “vibrancy” of the AI industry across various dimensions, from how much research and investment is happening to how responsibly the technology is being pursued to prevent harm. “The gap is actually widening” between the U.S. and China, said computer scientist Ray Perrault, director of the steering committee that runs Stanford’s AI Index. “The U.S.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Friday refused to comment on the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others, saying that the court’s rulings are “insignificant” for Russia, which doesn’t recognizes the court’s jurisdiction. The ICC last year issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and a number […]

A video of US Senate Majority Leader-elect Senator John Thune (R-SD) promising Israel and Jews around the world that “reinforcements are on the way” was widely shared in Israel on Wednesday. In statements that can only be called “a breath of fresh air” after four years of the Biden administration’s constant inane posturing about Israel and lack of action on the soaring antisemitism on US soil, Thune speaks the truth – clearly and forcefully. “It’s been over 13 months since Hamas terrorists waged war against Israel and for the past year plus, Democrats have struggled to support our ally Israel and has literally fractured the Democratic party. For example, we are expecting tomorrow Sen.

The Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court has authorized the publication of the names of three individuals arrested for firing flares near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in Caesarea last weekend One of the suspects is Rear Adm. (res.) Ofer Doron, a former senior Navy officer who made headlines last year for refusing to participate in volunteer reservist duty as a protest against the government’s planned judicial overhaul. His refusal led to his suspension from the reserves. The other two suspects have been identified as Amir Sadeh and Itai Yafeh, both veteran anti-government protesters. According to reports from Channel 12 news, the suspects claimed during police questioning that the incident was not an intentional attack on Netanyahu’s home.

The United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, citing concerns over the absence of provisions for the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The 15-member council voted on a draft resolution that sought an “immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire” while separately demanding the release of hostages. However, the US opposed the measure, insisting that a ceasefire resolution must explicitly tie hostilities to the immediate release of all captives. A senior US official, speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity, accused some council members of rejecting efforts to find a compromise.

The United States vetoed a U.N. Nations Security Council resolution calling for an Israel-Hamas ceasefire on Wednesday morning, citing its failure to condition a halt in hostilities directly to the release of the hostages, whom Hamas continues to hold in the Gaza Strip.
“We could not support an unconditional ceasefire that failed to release the hostages,” Robert Wood, deputy U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told the council.
Wood accused Hamas—and not Israel—of blocking a negotiated ceasefire and cited Israel’s reference for a temporary ceasefire and a phased release of hostages.
Washington cast the lone vote against the measure among the 15-member body. It is one of five permanent members of the council that has veto power.

Donald Trump says he has chosen former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker to serve as U.S. ambassador to NATO, the bedrock Western alliance that the president-elect has expressed skepticism about for years. Trump, in a statement, said Whitaker was “a strong warrior and loyal Patriot” who “will ensure the United States’ interests are advanced and defended” and “strengthen relationships with our NATO Allies, and stand firm in the face of threats to Peace and Stability.” The choice of Whitaker as the nation’s representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an unusual one, given his background is in law enforcement and not in foreign policy.

Israel’s Tzav 9 (“Order 9”) protest group that opposes humanitarian aid going to Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip announced on Wednesday the resumption of its activities after a five-month hiatus.
“Tomorrow, Thursday, 411 days since the start of the war, we will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the [Kibbutz] Urim gas station,” the movement announced. “We will continue to fight until the 101 hostages are returned home.”
“Whoever controls the aid controls the Strip. Stop strengthening Hamas, and make sure that the aid will not get to them,” Tzav 9 stated.
“We will go to the field for the same purpose for which we established Tzav 9. The purpose of blocking the trucks was to demand the most elementary thing—stop strengthening Hamas!” it vowed.
