It’s Chodesh Av, a time of mourning throughout the global Jewish family. The communal mood is tuned to a minor key, as everyone commemorates the historical weight of this particular month.
Somewhere in {Brooklyn}, Shira is finding a way to give voice to the moment. The song of choice is Uvnei Yerushalayim, originally composed by Moshe Morgenstern and Shlome Cohen for the latter’s Lemalah album.
In this rendition, the only instruments present are the powerful, layered Shira voices, and the pleaful soloing of Yanky Green—a cherubic voice and a “Yiddish Nachas” alumnus reminiscent of the tinokkos shel rabbin who will usher in the coming of Mashiach.

A second CNN contributor has apologized for tweets offensive to the Jewish community.
Kareem Farid, an unpaid presenter for a web video series on CNN Arabic, had come under fire for Arabic tweets from 2011 where he tweeted “I love you Hitler, and praised the Nazi leader for “his determination to reach his goal.”
He later apologized for the offensive tweets, saying in a statement quoted by JTA, “I was horrified to re-read some of my old tweets from 2011 during the emotional Arab spring events in Cairo. I have never been a supporter of Hitler or any of his believes and actions and these translated tweets are not a reflection of who I am and what I believe in.”
Farid said that he “deeply” apologized and added that he had learned from his mistake.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday that he opposes anyone who supports Israel and its “state terror.”

Speaking to senior provincial officials from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara, Erdoğan said that “whoever is on the side of Israel, let everyone know that we are against them.”
Erdoğan, an Islamist politician who often criticizes Israel, suffered a major blow earlier this year when the opposition won control of Istanbul in a repeat mayoral election after Erdoğan’s AKP forced a re-vote.

Avner Netanyahu, the son of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, filed a complaint on Sunday against attorney Barak Cohen for harassment and infringement of privacy.
Cohen, who regularly surprises politicians and public figures with insulting remarks, came to a restaurant where Avner Netanyahu was eating on Saturday night and began insulting him harshly.
“I filed a harassment complaint with the police today against Barak Cohen,” Avner wrote on his Facebook page. “Time after time he follows me, comes to the places where I am and begins videoing me and insulting me. There’s a way to conduct political arguments. Bullying and harassment of uninvolved civilians are unequivocally not the way.”
