A civilian contractor working for the Israeli Defense Ministry succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday after being critically wounded in a mortar attack earlier this week in the southern Gaza Strip.
Liron Yitzhak, 30, from Petach Tikvah in central Israel, was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning after being critically wounded on Monday, announced the Rabin Medical Center’s Beilinson Hospital.
“Liron, of blessed memory, left behind his parents, a brother, a sister and Almog, his fiancée; she was supposed to get married in two weeks,” said the hospital, also in Petach Tikvah, in a statement cited by Israel’s Ynet news outlet.

Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and other members of his coalition slammed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Wednesday night after he demanded that the government commit to Palestinian control over the Gaza Strip after the war with Hamas ends.
“I am not willing to exchange Hamastan for Fatahstan,” Netanyahu said in a video statement, with the latter term referring to Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas’s ruling Fatah Party.
The premier reiterated that the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority “supports terrorism, teaches terrorism and funds terrorism.”
“The first condition for ‘the day after’ is to eliminate Hamas, with no excuses,” he added, addressing criticism by Gallant and the Biden administration that Israel does not have an exit plan for Gaza.

Slovakia’s prime minister, Robert Fico, was in “life-threatening” condition after being shot on Wednesday, according to his government.
A statement posted to Fico’s Facebook page said he was being transported to a hospital by helicopter and that the “next few hours” would be decisive.

US House Speaker Mike Johnson accused President Joe Biden on Wednesday of “carrying water for Hamas and Iran” following the White House’s announcement of his intent to veto the Israel Security Assistance Support Act. This Act, if signed into law, would compel the United States to send defense weapons to Israel.
“President Biden has turned his back on Israel,” remarked Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana. “He has refused to enforce oil sanctions on Iran, allowed our ballistic missile sanctions there to expire, and done nothing about Iran’s dangerous nuclear buildup.”
The House is expected to vote on the bill this week, amid Biden’s threat to withhold shipments of certain weapons to Israel for use in an offensive in the Gaza city of Rafah against Hamas.
