An Arab resident of east Jerusalem who planned to assassinate National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir during Ramadan was arrested several weeks ago in a joint operation by Israel Police and the Shin Bet. According to a report by Channel 13 News, the suspect had gathered intelligence on Ben-Gvir, including his daily routine., and had planned on stealing police license plates so he could approach Ben-Gvir’s convoy and attack him in the Har HaBayis area. The investigation revealed that the suspect met with terror operatives from a neighboring country and received funds to carry out the attack as well as to distribute to terrorists in Israeli jails. The suspect also admitted that he intended to carry out another murder and kidnap the body in order to use it as a bargaining chip for the release of terrorists in Israeli prisons. The police have imposed a gag order on further details of the thwarted plot. (YWN Israel Desk – Jerusalem)
