Dovid Stern, the former US marine who was seriously injured in a shooting attack in Huwara on Sunday, spoke about the attack from his hospital bed on Tuesday. “I was driving with my wife in Huwara toward Jerusalem on Sunday,” he said. “We reached the intersection and the terrorist crossed the street – I stopped for him while he crossed.” ” I noticed that he was hiding one arm in a very suspicious way. I immediately reached for my gun. The terrorist turned in our direction and we began to open fire – almost at the same time. He shot at us and I shot at him and I saw from the window after shooting around ten bullets at him – he fled.” “I continued driving for a few hundred meters and stopped. I started putting on a tourniquet and bandage and after a few minutes the ambulance arrived and they took me to the hospital.” “I want to say, first of all, thank you to Hashem and thank you to all of Am Yisrael for the tefillos and the support. I truly feel everyone’s love. Thank you very much.” Addressing security officials, he added: “I want to say that the checkpoints must be restored. We can’t continue like this. It was a neis that we survived the attack but what will be with the next family?” The Yaniv brothers, H’yd, were killed on the same street in Huwara exactly three weeks before the Stern family came under attack.
