Due to the heightened security situation and the ongoing conflict, the annual Kever Rochel memorial service on the yahrtzeit of Rochel Imeinu will not take place as usual.
The Kever Rochel complex will remain closed. Instead, special tefillah sessions will be broadcast live to all Yidden by the Chief Rabbis and additional prominent rabbonim on the eve of the yahrtzeit.
In a statement issued by the National Center for the Development of Holy Sites, responsible for the yahrtzeit event, it was explained that “due to the security situation throughout the country, the Yerushalayim Police informed the National Center for the Development of Holy Sites of the cancellation of the Kever Rochel memorial service scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, the 11th of Marcheshvan, 5784.”
Israel Police said in a statement, “In accordance with the decision of the Israel Police and security authorities, the Kever Rochel compound will be arranged operationally to prevent the entry of worshippers while, at the same time, the lines at Kever Rochel will be suspended during these hours. In light of the situation and in coordination with the Israel Police, the National Center for the Development of Holy Sites will hold a special prayer day at Kever Rochel, during the hours of the yahrtzeit, broadcast live with the participation of the Chief Rabbis of Israel and other prominent rabbonim and public figures.”
In addition, it was emphasized that “under no circumstances will the public be allowed to access the kever area, as per the instructions of the Israel Police and the Home Front Command, given the security situation, and the public is required to adhere strictly to the instructions of the security forces.”
