Rav Elimelech Wasserman Hy”d, who was killed in the shooting attack in Yerushalayim this morning, was laid to rest in the city this afternoon.
The levayah commenced from the Belzer Bais Medrash, ultimately reaching Har Hamenuchos.
Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchok Yosef, nosi of the Rabbinical Court System, delivered a heartfelt hesped, lamenting the loss of a significant dayan and talmid chochom in the rabbinical court system.
He reflected on Rav Wasserman’s role as a source of hadracha for young dayanim and poskim, praising his knowledge and unwavering commitment to halacha.
Rav Yosef extended nechamah to the grieving Wasserman family.
Rav Wasserman, a respected member of the Belzer community in Yerushalayim and a dayan on the Ashdod Bais Medrash, was en route to the bais din in Ashdod when he was shot at a bus stop near one of Yerushalayim’s entrances.
Rav Wasserman learned at the Seret Viznitz Yeshiva in Haifa and then at the Harry Fischel Institute after his marriage. Under the guidance of the late Rav Yosef Cohen and the Chief Rabbinate, he received semicha and became a dayan. He was a son-in-law of Rav Asher Freund, the founder of the Yad Ezra organization.
Rav Wasserman’s dayanus extended to the monetary bais din in Yerushalayim, where he distinguished himself as one of the most erudite dayanim and poskim.
