It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shlomo Edelstein zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ahavas Aharon. He was 79.
A week ago, Rav Shlomo suddenly collapsed after a lung infection complicated matters. He passed away at Maayanei Hayeshuah Medical Center.
Rav Shlomo was born in Ramat Hasharon on the 12th of Elul, 79 years ago to his parents, Rav Tzvi Yehuda Edelstein, the city rov, and Rebbetzin Rochel.
In 1951, his father passed away, and in 1953 his mother remarried to Rav Chaim Yosef Dinkels, author of Da’as Yosef. Together with his sister, Mrs. Shoshana Rivka Breitstein, they were raised in Bnei Brak. Rav Shlomo published the writings of Rav Dinkels, who raised him as his own.
In his childhood, he studied at Talmud Torah Vizhnitz in Bnei Brak. Later, he joined the Ponovezh Yeshiva L’Tzeirim and Slabodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
Over the years, Rav Shlomo held in several Torah positions, including as R”M at Yeshivas Bobov in Bat Yam, as Rosh Yeshivas Noam HaTorah in Modi’in Illit, as Rosh Kollel Nishmas Yisrael yeshiva in Paris, France, and Rosh Yeshivas Ahavas Aharon in Bnei Brak.
He served as Ba’al Tokeia at Kollel Chazon Ish on Rosh Hashanah, and as the chazzan on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur at the Slabodka Yeshiva.
In recent years, he devoted his mornings to learning at Kollel Morasha VeDa’as in Bnei Brak.
He leaves behind doros yeshorim. His only daughter is married to Rav Yaakov Bertler, son of Rav Yechezkel Bertler.
Rav Shlomo was a brother of the Ponovezh Rosh Yeshiva Rav Gershon Adelstein and the rov of Ramat Hasharon Rav Yaakov Edelstein.
The levayah was held today at Rav Shlomo’s home at 9 Rechov Matisyahu in Bnei Brak followed by kevurah at the Ponovezher Bais Hachaim.
