It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Yechiel Yitzchok Perr zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Derech Ayson of Far Rockaway. He was 89.
Rav Perr grew up in South Ozone Park, Queens, where his father, Rav Menachem Mendel Perr, served as rov for over 50 years. He was a son of Rav Menachem Mendel and Rebbetzin Leah Perr.
He attended high school at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin and then learned at Yeshiva of Philadelphia, under Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky and Rav Elya Svei.
He subsequently joined Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, where he learned under the rosh yeshiva, Rav Aharon Kotler, from 1954 to 1962.
Rav Perr married his wife, Rebbetzin Shoshana, née Nekritz, daughter of Rav Yehuda Leib Nekritz, granddaughter of Rav Avraham Jofen, and great-granddaughter of the Alter of Novardok.
In 1969, he founded Yeshiva of Far Rockaway, which he led for decades together with the late menahel, Rav Ahron Brafman. With remarkable dedication, Rav Perr grew the yeshiva into a bastion of Torah, educating and inspiring generations of talmidim. Rav Perr was not just a brilliant talmid chochom, but a consummate baal mussar and an extraordinary mechanech. He was unique in so many ways and his petirah leaves a gaping void in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him and be uplifted by his example.
Rav Perr is survived by his illustrious wife, Rebbetzin Shoshana Perr, and their children and grandchildren.
The levayah will be held at Yeshiva of Far Rockaway, located at 802 Hicksville Road in Far Rockaway, NY. Times and details will be posted once they are finalized.
