It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Shmaya Greenbaum zt”l. He was 77.
Rav Greenbaum was a noted marbitz Torah in the Satmar community and the author of the acclaimed peirush titled Siyata Dishmaya.
Rav Greenbaum was a son of Rav Yehuda Greenbaum. In his youth, he studied at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva in Paris and later became one of the noted talmidim of the Divrei Yoel of Satmar, to whom he was devoted throughout his life, spreading his teachings and worldview.
Throughout his life, he learned Torah continuously and was known as an immense talmid chochom.
Rav Greenbaum authored the aforementioned Siyata Dishmaya commentary on Chumash-Rashi and on Mishnayos, and his seforim were widely accepted throughout the Torah world.
Rav Greenbaum brought flavor to the study of Mishnayos, and many recount that thanks to him, they received a living interpretation of the words of Mishnayos through his commentary, on which he labored with great effort.
He served as a maggid shiur at the Satmar Bais Medrash in Williamsburg for many years.
Additionally, he served as a dayan and halachic authority in Satmar.
He was deeply connected to the Satmar Rebbes: the Divrei Yoel, then the Beirach Moshe, and later Rav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum.
Rav Greenbaum suffered from a severe illness and passed away over Shabbos.
He is survived by his family and bnei and bnos Torah.
The levayah will be held this morning at 10 a.m. in Williamsburg, and then at the bais hachaim in Kiryas Yoel, where he will be buried.
Yehi zichro boruch.
