From Yerushalayim comes the sad news of the petirah of Rav Yisroel Yaakov Weissfish zt”l, rov of the neighborhoods of Kiryat Menachem and Ir Ganim, the zekan harabbonim in Yerushalayim, who was niftar at the age of 92.
Rav Weissfish zt”l was born on the 20th of Tamuz in 1932, a son of Rav Shlomo Zalman Weissfish and a grandson of Rav Dovid Baharan.
From his youth, he devoted himself to Torah with intense diligence and effort.
For more than sixty years, he gave of himself selflessly in the dissemination of Torah, yiras Shamayim, and kevod Shomayim. He brought many Yidden closer to to Ribono Shel Olam and helped many nitzrachim.
As rov of Kiryat Menachem and Ir Ganim for many decades, his home was open to all the residents of the neighborhood for matters of Yiddishkeit and chesed. With chochmah and insight, he guided individuals, families, and kehillos, and gave his all for them.
He taught Torah at the local kollel for yungeleit which he headed, and through this he spread Torah via a system of shiurim delivered by the yungeleit in the shuls of the neighborhood.
His wife is a daughter of Rav Avraham Horowitz zt”l, author of Orchos Rabbeinu.
He was blessed to leave behind a generation of bnei Torah, his sons, his daughter, and his grandchildren.
The levayah will take place on Sunday at 10:00 AM from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim, and at 11:30 AM from Beis Medrash Ohel Malka in Kiryat Menachem, proceeding to Har Hazeisim for kevurah.
