It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Mrs. Rochel Povarsky a”h, widow of Rav Dr. Chaim Povarsky z”l, at the age of 90.
Mrs. Povarsky was a daughter of Rav Pesach Kokis, who served as the Chief Rabbi of Bat Yam for over forty years, and her mother, Mrs. Ayala, daughter of Rav Refoel Eliyahu Yitzchak Halevi Katzenelenbogen, a prominent talmid chochom and leader of the Old Yishuv, and a key figure in the Poalei Agudas Yisrael movement.
She wed Rav Chaim Povarsky, who was a distinguished talmid at the Yeshiva of Chevron and the son of the Rosh Yeshiva of Ponovezh, Rav Dovid Povarsky, and a brother of the current Rosh Yeshiva of Ponovezh, Rav Berel Povarsky.
Following their marriage, the couple lived for many years in the United States before eventually returning to Eretz Yisrael, where they settled in the Ma’alot Dafna neighborhood.
Mrs. Povarsky stood by the side of her husband, Rav Chaim, as he wrote his seminal works, including P’ri Chaim on the parshios hashovuah and on Shas.
She was blessed to leave behind a generation of righteous descendants, including her son, Rav Dov Povarsky, and her brother, Rav Zev Kokis, one of the heads of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Ozer. Her sister, Rebbetzin Baila Chodosh, is the wife of Rav Naftali Menachem Chodosh, the Mashgiach of Yeshiva Ohr Elchanan.
The levayah was held at the Shamgar Funeral Home in Yerushalayim, followed by kevurah on Har Hazeisim.
Yehi zichrah boruch.
