President Donald Trump has pledged to “tell it like it is” when he steps before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night for what he has called a “big” address.
This will mark the first time Trump is addressing both chambers of Congress together since beginning his second term in office.
“TOMORROW NIGHT WILL BE BIG. I WILL TELL IT LIKE IT IS!” Trump declared in a Monday morning post on Truth Social.
His speech will take place just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was abruptly escorted out of the White House following a tense conversation with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
During their meeting on Friday, Trump and Vance accused Zelenskyy of being disrespectful while discussing the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Prior to this heated exchange, the Ukrainian leader had been expected to sign a deal regarding mineral resources with the U.S.
Shortly before his post about the “big” speech, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “The only President who gave none of Ukraine’s land to Putin’s Russia is President Donald J. Trump. Remember that when the weak and ineffective Democrat’s criticize, and the Fake News gladly puts out anything they say!”
According to reports on Monday, Trump was scheduled to meet with senior advisers to consider reducing or altogether halting U.S. military assistance to Ukraine.
As Congress, now controlled by Republicans in both chambers, continues negotiations over budget proposals that align with his policies, Trump is expected to address extending his tax cuts from 2016, bolstering security along the U.S.-Mexico border, and tackling the country’s fentanyl crisis.
Data released by the government and reported by CBS News indicate that during Trump’s first month back in office, illegal crossings at the southern border plummeted to their lowest numbers in over 20 years.
His newly established Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, has been making headlines due to widespread staff reductions and discoveries of significant partisan and excessive government expenditures—likely a topic Trump will highlight in his remarks.
Additionally, the president is anticipated to promote his trade policies, including tariffs on goods imported from Mexico and Canada, as well as an extra tariff targeting China. Trump has confirmed that these tariffs are scheduled to take effect on Tuesday.
