Thousands of chassidim gathered in the courtyard of the Sanzer court in Netanya for the Lag BaOmer hadlakah in honor of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai, as the Sanzer Rebbe kindled the the grand bonfire at the large beis medrash of the Kiryah.
During the event, the Rebbe of Sanz delivered divrei Torah, addressing the growing challenges faced by Torah learners in today’s climate. His words took on a particularly sharp tone as he referenced the ongoing governmental efforts against Torah study in Eretz Yisroel.
“Atzei shitim omdim—the righteous are like trees standing tall,” the Rebbe said. “These tzaddikim stand above and plead that Torah never be forgotten from the mouths of their descendants. Lomdei Torah will never cease.”
The Rebbe continued: “Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai foresaw that the sitra achra would grow stronger in the later generations. And yet he declared, Lo sishakach Torah miYisrael—Torah will not be forgotten from Yisroel. That is why we dance around the fire, we increase light through candles and flame, whether in Meron or in any place. Fire represents Torah.”
“Rabi Shimon fought with gevurah, with courage,” he declared. “He battled so there would be a sword against our enemies. And through that, Torah will never be forgotten.”
