The Yerushalayim District Court has ruled to confiscate 20 million shekels from the Palestinian Authority’s funds following a legal action taken by the Yaniv family, who tragically lost their sons, Hallel and Yagel Yaniv, in a shooting attack in Huwara nearly two years ago.
Reports indicate that the lawsuit, filed last week, included a request for a temporary order to seize 20 million shekels from Palestinian Authority funds held by Israel. This request is based on the law that enables compensation for victims of terrorism.
In their legal action, the Yaniv family argued that Palestinian Authority officials have publicly stated that paying terrorists is a priority for the Palestinian people, even asserting that if they had only one shekel left, they would allocate it to martyrs and prisoners. Judge Amit referenced the Palestinian Authority’s payment policies in a ruling concerning unidentified individuals, rejecting the Authority’s claims that such payments are merely “social.”
The father of the family, Shalom Yaniv, shared his feelings, stating: “Nothing can return our loved ones to us and nothing will bring peace to our souls. However, the seizure of the funds is the start of justice for us as a family and for terror victims. It is a just and rightful action that every family affected by a terror attack should send the message that financiers of terror will also pay economically. Alongside the seizure, Israel must also work on the expulsion of terrorists in a firm and decisive way.”
