A fire erupted in a home on Eastern Parkway, located between Brooklyn and New York Avenues in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Erev Shabbos.
The blaze was reported at 10:40 am at 658 Eastern Parkway, with people trapped inside the building.
The residence is used as a dormitory for bochurim studying at the 770 Yeshiva. Witnesses described seeing bochurim fleeing from the windows of the building. According to one bystander, the fire might have been ignited by a space heater.
Seven people were injured in the fire, one of them critically, including a firefighter. Four of the bochurim were taken to the hospital.
The house was completely destroyed in the fire, and the bochurim lost all of their possessions. The Red Cross has pledged to send clothing and provide other forms of aid to the bochurim.
