Today, the Hamas terror group released a sign of life from Liri Albag, who was kidnapped 456 days ago from the Nahal Oz military base located near the Gaza border. Albag, who served as an IDF lookout, was abducted by Hamas terrorists during the October 7 massacre.
Her family has asked that the video and its contents not be shared publicly, at least for the time being, although they have allowed a screenshot from the video to be used.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum Headquarters responded by stating, “The sign of life from Liri is harsh and undeniable proof of the urgency in bringing all the hostages home! Every day in Hamas’s hell in Gaza poses an immediate risk of death to the living hostages and endangers the ability to recover the fallen for proper burial.” They added, “Sixteen days remain until the ultimatum set by President-elect Trump. We must not lose this historic window of opportunity! It is time for our Prime Minister and other world leaders to take courageous action and bring Liri and all the hostages home.” The forum also called on the public to join protests and vigils worldwide, urging, “The hostages’ families call on the public to join tonight’s rallies and protest vigils around the world and to cry out with them for their loved ones, trapped in the tunnels.”
Later in the evening, Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke with Shira and Eli Albag, Liri’s parents, offering them strength and support upon receiving the distressing video, which served as a sign of life after such a long period. During the emotionally difficult conversation, the President emphasized the importance of continuing negotiations to bring all 100 hostages home.
Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu also called Shira and Eli, expressing his deep empathy for their suffering as well as for all hostages and their families. During their conversation, Netanyahu assured them that Israel would persist in its efforts to secure the release of Liri and all the hostages, continuing their relentless work on the matter. “The Prime Minister reiterated that whoever dares to harm our hostages – will pay the price,” a statement from his office emphasized.
Fifteen lookouts were killed at the Nachal Oz outpost on October 7, and seven were taken hostage while still alive. One of those abducted, Noa Marciano, was later murdered by Hamas terrorists, though her body was eventually recovered and returned to Israel. Ori Megidish, another lookout taken captive from the same location, was rescued 23 days after her abduction and has since rejoined the IDF. Currently, five female soldiers remain in captivity: Karina Ariev, Naama Levy, Liri Albag, Agam Berger, and Daniella Gilboa.
