In an interview with the Turkish CNN network on Monday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former Iranian president, asserted that a special unit had been formed to counter Mossad operatives within Iran. However, he alleged that the leader of this unit was, in fact, an agent of Mossad.
Ahmadinejad further alleged that alongside this unit leader, 20 Israeli Mossad agents were collaborating, and they were involved in overseeing major intelligence activities inside Iran.
According to Ahmadinejad, these same Mossad agents were responsible for stealing documents concerning Iran’s nuclear program and assassinating several of the country’s nuclear scientists.
Additionally, he claimed that all of these agents managed to escape Iran without being captured and are currently residing in Israel.
This was the first time Ahmadinejad made such a claim, but thus far, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has neither confirmed nor denied his statements.
In recent years, Ahmadinejad has been distanced from political power and has attempted multiple times to return as a presidential candidate, though his bids were rejected. The last campaign he ran was following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a plane crash.
