An alarming new report suggests that President Biden, at 81 years old, struggles to function effectively outside a six-hour window of daylight.
According to White House aides speaking to Axios, the octogenarian president is prone to forgetfulness and fatigue outside the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or when traveling abroad. This revelation came in a peculiar attempt to justify his poor performance in the recent presidential debate.
The 90-minute debate, which began at 9 p.m., five hours after Biden’s optimal functioning window, saw the president frequently appear dazed or expressionless. He often paused mid-sentence, misspoke, or had difficulty forming coherent thoughts.
This dismal late-night performance heightened concerns about Biden’s ability to serve another four-year term, considering he would be 86 by the end of it.
In an effort to reassure voters about his mental sharpness, Biden delivered a more spirited speech at a rally in Raleigh, N.C., on Friday, during his preferred early afternoon hours.
“I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to,” he told a cheering crowd in the battleground state just after 1 p.m.
“But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. And I know how to do this job, I know how to get things done.”
Despite his improved daytime performance on Friday, Biden has faced numerous calls from donors and pundits to withdraw from the race.
However, Biden has steadfastly refused to step down, asserting that party leaders will continue to support him. Former Democratic Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have also publicly voiced their support for Biden.
