While the White House recently leveraged intelligence information in hopes of stalling an IDF operation in Rafah, it has now begun denying withholding information from its ally, the New York Post reportS.
Initially, reports emerged suggesting that the US had attempted to utilize intelligence data in an effort to influence the situation, with information stemming from four anonymous sources cited by the Washington Post.
The intelligence shared by the US purportedly encompassed details regarding the whereabouts of Hamas leaders and the infrastructure of the terror organization’s tunnels.
Furthermore, the proposal allegedly included provisions for the provision of shelters for Gaza’s Palestinian population and US assistance in establishing mechanisms for the delivery of essential supplies such as water, food, and medicine to the inhabitants of the Strip.
“We’re not holding anything back,” emphasized a US representative. “We believe [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar should and indeed must be held accountable for the horrors of the October 7 attack.”
John Kirby, the National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications, addressed reporters last week, highlighting the enduring and robust nature of the counterterrorism partnership between the US and Israel, encompassing intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken echoed this sentiment, affirming on CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday that the US shares Israel’s objective of preventing Hamas from regaining control over Gaza.
The resilience of the US-Israel relationship has come under scrutiny amid reported tensions between President Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Allegations surfaced earlier this year suggesting that Biden, displeased with Netanyahu, referred to him in private conversations using derogatory language due to disagreements over military strategies during the Gaza conflict, as per NBC reports from February.
Additional claims suggested that Biden characterized the Israeli leader as a “bad … guy.”
More recently, the United States has taken steps to delay the shipment of weapons and aid to Israel.
