During an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” President Joe Biden didn’t hold back from making comments about former President Donald Trump’s age, even as pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the show.
“You got to take a look at the other guy,” Biden remarked. “He’s about as old as I am. But he can’t remember his wife’s name.” Biden, at 81, and Trump, at 77, have both surpassed the typical retirement age.
Forbes highlighted an incident where Trump seemingly referred to his wife, Melania Trump, as “Mercedes” during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, although Trump’s campaign disputed this assertion.
In his conversation with Meyers, Biden pivoted the discussion to the relevance of ideas, stating, “It’s about how old your ideas are. This is a guy who wants to take us back. He wants to take us back on Roe v. Wade. He wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that are — 50 to 60 years, they’ve been solid American positions.”
Biden’s appearance on the show drew attention from pro-Palestinian demonstrators, resulting in protests on Monday, according to Politico. Social media posts from Jewish Voices for Peace NYC showcased images of the demonstrators holding banners with messages like “Jews to Biden: Stop Arming Genocide” and wearing shirts advocating for a ceasefire.
The group’s social media presence further elaborated on the demonstration, stating, “Hundreds of Jews and allies are taking over NBC’s famed 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters in NYC to disrupt President Biden’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. @POTUS deadly foreign policy has funded and armed genocide in Gaza.”
