High-ranking members of Israel’s security cabinet have revealed that the United States has granted Israel permission to extend the IDF’s presence at several locations in southern Lebanon beyond the anticipated ceasefire deadline of February 18.
According to Kan, senior officials explained that this matter was discussed extensively by both Israeli and American teams before and during the recent meeting between Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump. Preliminary agreements were made, and additional efforts will be made to finalize the remaining details.
The officials emphasized that maintaining the IDF’s presence in parts of southern Lebanon is essential for safeguarding the security of northern Israel’s residents, and noted that the United States fully recognizes this need.
Earlier today, Lebanon’s LBCI television reported that Israel had formally requested to keep IDF forces stationed in certain positions in southern Lebanon until February 28. However, the request was promptly rejected by the Lebanese authorities.
