US Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced the formation of a “joint task force” aimed at delivering justice to those impacted by the October 7, 2023, attack in Israel. The task force will focus on addressing the ongoing threat posed by Hamas and its affiliates, as well as taking action against antisemitic terrorism and civil rights violations within the United States.
Named JTF 10-7, the task force will operate under the Deputy Attorney General’s Office. It will coordinate efforts with the Department of Defense, the Treasury Department, and will also involve US Attorneys’ Offices, the FBI, and the National Security Division.
In a memorandum released Thursday, the Justice Department outlined the task force’s goals. It will work to pursue criminal charges, including capital offenses, against those responsible for the attack, provide assistance to victims and hostage families, investigate US-based supporters and funders of Hamas, and collaborate with federal agencies and Israeli authorities to combat the terror group.
The task force will also focus on pursuing the arrest and extradition of Hamas leaders and investigating hate crimes related to antisemitism and terror-related civil rights violations connected to Hamas supporters within the US, including on college campuses.
The US Treasury Department and the IRS will join forces to track and disrupt Hamas’ financial networks, with Bondi instructing the Justice Department to take the necessary steps.
