Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, the leader of the Health Ministry’s public health division, announced that preparations are underway for the return of hostages, with 33 set to be freed in the initial phase of the ongoing Israel-Hamas negotiations.
She stated that the situation of these hostages, who include women, children, elderly individuals, and the injured, will be “very different” from the release of 105 civilians during a temporary truce in late November 2023. Alroy-Preis emphasized that lessons were learned from the previous hostage release.
Hospitals receiving the hostages will ensure they are given privacy as medical assessments are carried out, including checking for nutritional deficiencies. The medical teams will provide ongoing health monitoring for an extended period.
