Pete Hegseth, the newly appointed Secretary of Defense, alleged that his family was unfairly targeted by the outgoing Biden administration through an IRS audit.
“Of course the outgoing Biden IRS rushed an ‘audit’ of the incoming SecDef. Total sham,” Hegseth posted on his official X account on Monday, sharing a photo of an IRS notice sent to him and his wife.
The notice indicated that their federal income tax return revealed a balance of $33,558.16 owed to the government, and warned that immediate payment was required to avoid additional penalties.
“The party of ‘norms’ and ‘decency’ strikes again. We will never back down,” Hegseth added.
