Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has expressed that the Democratic Party must adopt a combative approach if they are to succeed in Texas elections. She emphasized that Republican figures like Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) need to be “hit hard,” using stark and forceful language to make her point.
During a conversation with NBC 5’s Phil Prazan and Gromer Jeffers of the Dallas Morning News, Crockett was questioned about the strategy for Democrats to secure victories in Texas, particularly in statewide races. She responded with bold and graphic imagery, saying, “I think that you punch. I think you’re ok with — you’re ok with punching.” Her comment revealed a readiness to embrace aggressive tactics in political contests.
Crockett, despite the political climate often criticizing divisive rhetoric, continued her metaphor, referencing fellow Democrat Colin. “You know, I think, and I love Colin, and I think towards the end, he started to punch a little harder,” she remarked, suggesting that this strategy, though aggressive, was effective. She took the analogy even further.
She then directed her comments specifically at Ted Cruz, saying, “But, like, it’s Ted Cruz. I mean, like, This dude has to be knocked over the head, like, hard, right? Like, there is no niceties with him, like, at all. Like, you go clean off on him, right?” This sharp and combative tone reinforced her belief that certain Republicans, particularly Cruz, should be confronted without restraint.
Crockett then offered a glimpse into her outreach efforts, noting the wide array of individuals who contact her, regardless of their party affiliation. “I can tell you the truth is that I get emails from independents, Republicans and Democrats. I get Republicans that call the office. I get people that say, ‘Listen, we don’t necessarily agree with you on everything, but we support you, right?’ And that’s what it takes,” she explained. She underscored that connecting with people is key to gaining support, even from those who may not share all of her views.
Known for courting controversy, Crockett has previously sparked outrage, particularly regarding her inflammatory remarks about protests against Elon Musk and Tesla. In relation to the Tesla Takedown rally, she remarked, “On March 29, it’s my birthday, and all I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down. Yes!” Her words quickly attracted the attention of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, who condemned the rally’s violent language.
Bondi, addressing Crockett’s rhetoric, referred to the actions targeting Tesla as “domestic terrorism” and criticized the congresswoman for encouraging such behavior. “Now you have this Congresswoman Crockett who is calling for attacks on Elon Musk on her birthday. Let’s take him out on my birthday, she said. Yet she turns and says, oh, I’m not calling for violence,” Bondi remarked during an appearance on Sunday Morning Futures. She went on to warn Crockett, saying, “Well, she is an elected public official. And so she needs to tread very carefully,” emphasizing the importance of public figures being cautious with their words.
Bondi also declared her commitment to defending Tesla owners, stating, “because nothing will happen to Elon Musk. And we’re going to fight to protect all of — all of the Tesla owners throughout this country. … it’s basic safety once again. Domestic terrorism is going to come to a stop in our country.”
In addition to her controversial comments on Tesla, Crockett recently made headlines after sharing a regrettable video in advance of President Trump’s address to Congress. She further sparked criticism when she exited the scene wearing a “resist” t-shirt, solidifying her position in the ongoing political conflict.
