Jared Moskowitz, a Democratic Senator from Florida, has become the first Democrat to join the so called ‘DOGE’ caucus in Congress, he announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, Moskowitz said he is joining the caucus because “streamlining government processes and reducing ineffective government spending should not be a partisan issue.”
The now bipartisan caucus was formed by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Reps. Aaron Bean (R-FL) and Pete Sessions (R-FL), and aims to support efforts by the Trump-established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an outside group to be run by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
A DOGE subcommittee will also be formed by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who will lead efforts to work with Musk and Ramaswamy.
In his statement, Moskowitz specifically called out the Department of Homeland Security as needing reform, saying: “While necessary, [DHS] has gotten too big,” calling for the Secret Service and FEMA to both become independent of the agency.
“It’s not practical to have 22 agencies under this one department,” said the Senator.
While they have not joined the caucus Democratic Congressmen Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) have both called on DOGE to aim it’s sights on the Department of Defense, with Khana saying: “There needs to be more open competition, not the monopolization in defense contractors.”
