The United States is reportedly trying to pressure Egypt into accepting President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza’s future, which includes the relocation of Palestinians to Egypt, according to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
Quoting Egyptian officials based in Washington, the news outlet claims that the Pentagon has recently warned Egyptian military leaders that they may face a reduction in military assistance if they do not agree to Trump’s proposal.
The sources suggest that specific supplies crucial for routine maintenance, as well as spare parts for weapons, could be among the aid items affected.
Trump initially suggested on January 25 that Egypt and Jordan should host Palestinians from Gaza. In the days that followed, he put forward the idea of a US-led takeover of Gaza, as well as a permanent resettlement of Palestinians from the region with no option for return.
Despite these proposals, Trump has maintained that both Egypt and Jordan will eventually support his plan, even though the Egyptian foreign ministry stated earlier this week that it intends to offer an alternative plan for Gaza’s reconstruction, one that ensures Palestinians stay on their land.
