Hamas has reportedly started an “accelerated rehabilitation” process for the hostages prior to their release. According to a report from N12, the terrorist group provides its captives with healthy meals and stimulants just before their return, aiming to give the impression that they were well-treated during their time in captivity.
This practice has come to light as part of the ongoing staged release of hostages. The report reveals that Hamas makes sure the hostages appear lively and in good physical shape when they are returned to Israel. However, accounts from recently freed women tell a very different story about their conditions while being held.
The hostages, as reported by N12, shared with Israeli authorities that during their captivity, they had to drink seawater and subsist on only bread and rice. Some described their confinement in brutal conditions, including being locked in underground tunnels and cages.
N12 pointed out that these pre-release measures are part of Hamas’s strategy to sway public opinion and influence how their treatment of hostages is perceived.
On Shabbos, four hostages—Karina Ariev, Liri Albag, Daniella Gilboa, and Naama Levy—were freed from Hamas captivity. Furthermore, Emily Damari, Romi Gonen, and Doron Steinbrecher were discharged from Sheba Medical Center after spending a week undergoing medical evaluations following their return home.
