Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi experienced an “injury” while participating in a congressional delegation visit to a World War II battlefield in Luxembourg, her office disclosed on Friday.
The 84-year-old lawmaker was part of a bipartisan group that traveled to the Western European country to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. During the trip, Pelosi suffered an injury and was subsequently “admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” according to a statement from her spokesperson, Ian Krager.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” Krager noted. “She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the [co-delegation’s] engagements to honor the courage of our service members during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”
Additionally, Pelosi’s representative conveyed her “thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe.”
