Early on Sunday, Hamas said that Salah al-Bardawil, a senior member of the terror organization’s political bureau, had been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Yunis, Gaza. His wife was reportedly also killed in the attack.
The Palestinian Arab news outlet Shehab had earlier reported the strike, alleging that the Israeli assault targeted “tents housing displaced people.” Israel has not yet provided any official response to Hamas’ claim.
Over the weekend, the IDF and Shin Bet launched an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the death of Osama Tabash, a senior Hamas official. Tabash held dual roles as the head of Hamas’ Military Intelligence in southern Gaza and the leader of Hamas’ Surveillance and Targeting Unit.
Tabash was an important figure within Hamas, offering significant operational expertise. He had served in various senior roles, including as a battalion commander in the Khan Yunis Brigade. He was implicated in terrorist operations over the years, notably in a 2005 suicide bombing at the Gush Katif junction in Gaza that resulted in the death of ISA coordinator Oded Sharon, according to a joint statement.
In his most recent role, Tabash was tasked with devising Hamas’ combat strategies, including overseeing the coordination of military intelligence in southern Gaza. He also played a crucial role in organizing the terrorist group’s activities in that region.
Additionally, Tabash was involved in planning and directing attacks during the October 7th massacre, in which Hamas launched a brutal assault on Israeli communities in the south. Throughout the conflict, he also led Hamas’ Surveillance Unit, which focused on gathering intelligence, tracking IDF movements, and directing operations against Israeli forces. This unit was instrumental in shaping Hamas’ understanding of the IDF’s strategies and actions.
