The Israeli Defense Forces have detected signs over the last two weeks that terrorist groups in the Gaza Strip are preparing to resume their attacks, as reported by Kan 11 News on Monday evening.
The report indicates that these signs include the recruitment of hundreds of new fighters, the distribution of military gear, the establishment of new defensive positions, and the reorganization of command structures that had been damaged during previous intense clashes.
Recently, the defense establishment also noted an unusual event in Gaza, which might suggest plans for an attack or raid. On Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting with senior defense officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz, Mossad Director David Barnea, Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
A security source commented, “Hamas is exploiting the negotiations for the release of hostages to buy time. Without increasing pressure on the organization or setting a deadline, the achievements of the fighting are eroding, and the situation of the hostages continues to deteriorate.”
Defense officials estimate that Hamas currently controls around 25,000 fighters, while Islamic Jihad has about 5,000 operatives.
In related developments, over the past several days, the IDF has conducted strikes against terrorist cells throughout Gaza after they planted explosive devices underground near IDF forces. On Monday, three such terrorist cells were targeted in Rafah and central Gaza, bringing the total number of cells attacked in the past two weeks to 15.
