According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, an Israeli official revealed that Israel’s current military campaign against Iran is not limited to strategic sites but may extend to the highest levels of Iranian leadership. The official stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is “not off limits” as part of Israel’s escalating air offensive aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The source explained that Israel’s objectives go beyond striking nuclear infrastructure. The campaign, he said, also targets the broader political and military apparatus supporting Iran’s nuclear development. “Israel has already eliminated nine scientists key to Tehran’s uranium enrichment efforts, alongside several senior Iranian generals,” he disclosed.
The official warned that more large-scale attacks inside Iran are expected in the near future. Responding to doubts regarding Israel’s capability to damage Iran’s heavily fortified nuclear installations, he maintained that the offensive has dealt a “punishing blow” to the regime’s atomic program. Specifically, he noted that the Natanz uranium enrichment facility—housed deep underground—sustained a structural collapse. A full analysis of the site is reportedly still being conducted.
He stressed that the hostilities will not cease unless Iran either voluntarily dismantles its nuclear capabilities or Israel is able to destroy them to the point of permanent disablement.
In Washington, a senior White House official said that the U.S. continues to favor diplomacy, emphasizing its preference for resumed nuclear talks with Tehran. However, the official added that “whatever happens today cannot be prevented.” Meanwhile, Oman confirmed that the scheduled discussions between the United States and Iran, originally set for Sunday, have now been delayed.
