A prominent ISIS figure, regarded as one of the most dangerous individuals in the world, was killed in an American airstrike on Friday.
Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, also known as ‘Abu Khadijah,’ who held the position of “deputy caliph” within ISIS, was taken down in the attack, according to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani. He made the announcement on X, adding that Khadijah had been responsible for managing a significant part of the group’s global financial operations.
“The Iraqis continue their remarkable victories against the forces of darkness and terrorism,” Prime Minister al-Sudani remarked.
President Trump also expressed his approval of the leader’s death, posting on Truth Social later that evening.
“Today the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed,” Trump wrote.
“He was relentlessly hunted down by our intrepid warfighters. His miserable life was terminated, along with another member of ISIS, in coordination with the Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government.”
US forces discovered two deceased terrorists at the location of the airstrike in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. Both Khadijah and another ISIS member were found wearing unexploded suicide vests and carrying various weapons, according to US Central Command.
The identification of Khadijah was made possible through DNA obtained from a sample collected during a prior raid, where he narrowly escaped.
“Abu Khadijah was one of the most important ISIS members in the entire global ISIS organization. We will continue to kill terrorists and dismantle their organizations that threaten our homeland,” stated Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, of US Central Command. The airstrike was executed by US forces with the support of Iraqi intelligence and security personnel.
