The funeral of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah took place in Beirut today, five months after his death in an Israeli airstrike in the city. During the ceremony, Israeli Air Force jets flew over the skies of Beirut.
Israeli Defense Minister Yisroel Katz remarked, “The Israeli Air Force planes that are now circling in the skies over Beirut over Hassan Nasrallah’s funeral are conveying a clear message: whoever threatens to destroy Israel and attacks Israel – that will be their end.” He went on to say, “You specialize in funerals – and we in victories.”
Additionally, the funeral of Nasrallah’s successor, Hashem Safieddine, who was killed in October 2024, was held on the same day. Hezbollah’s current leader, Naim Qassem, was reportedly too fearful to attend the services in person. Instead, he shared a video message in which he declared, “Even if our houses are destroyed and collapse on us, we will not give up the path of resistance.” He further stated, “There are those who say that the resistance is over. My friend, the resistance has not been eliminated, the resistance will continue to operate and will exist.” Qassem also spoke about the group’s future actions, noting, “Hezbollah is not interested in responding and shooting every day, we will shoot whenever we see it as the appropriate solution and we will be patient when it is the appropriate way.” He issued a warning: “You will not succeed in achieving through diplomacy what you failed to achieve in war.” Regarding the Hezbollah members held by Israel, he promised, “We will not leave you with the Zionists, we will take all steps and apply all appropriate pressure to free you.”
Hassan Nasrallah’s 32-year leadership of Hezbollah was marked by his involvement in the deaths of countless Israeli civilians and soldiers, as well as the planning and execution of numerous terrorist attacks. He played a pivotal role in directing terrorist operations globally, which led to the deaths of civilians from various countries. As the central decision-maker and strategic head of the organization, Nasrallah was integral to its operations.
Under Nasrallah’s leadership, Hezbollah aligned itself with Hamas in its aggression against Israel, beginning on October 8, 2023. Since then, Hezbollah has continued to launch unprovoked attacks on Israeli citizens, further destabilizing Lebanon and the broader region, escalating tensions and conflict.
