In Judea and Samaria, IDF forces took action on Tuesday by demolishing a monument dedicated to the former PLO leader and notorious terrorist Yasser Arafat, situated in Tulkarm.
The decision to remove the monument was executed without providing a specific reason for the action.
Over a span of 15 hours, IDF forces conducted operations in Tulkarm, resulting in the elimination of seven terrorists. Throughout the mission, engineering units discovered numerous pre-planted charges under and along roads, designed to pose a threat to IDF soldiers. Additionally, the operation led to the arrest of a high-ranking terrorist, the commander of the ‘Tulkarm Battalion.’
Yasser Arafat, despite opportunities for peace with Israel, opted for a path of terrorism against the State of Israel and propagated anti-Jewish sentiments at various levels of Palestinian society. In the 90s and early 2000s, during the establishment of the Palestinian Authority through the Oslo Accords, Arafat had the chance to pursue peace but instead chose violence. Notably, in 2000, he rejected an offer for a Palestinian Arab state by then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, initiating the Second Intifada.
