The Israel Defense Forces reported Sunday the discovery of an exceptionally large tunnel on the Gaza-Egypt border, capable of accommodating vehicles.
The military specified that the tunnel’s height was approximately 10 feet.
The tunnel was found last week along the Philadelphi Route during ongoing efforts to locate all of Hamas’s smuggling pathways in the region.
Military officials noted that combat engineers were examining the tunnel before its planned demolition.
Numerous tunnels have been identified along the Philadelphi corridor, including at least 25 extending into Egypt.
This tunnel was found amidst ongoing clashes in Gaza’s southern and central areas.
In a photograph cleared for publication on August 4, 2024, soldiers stand inside the unusually large tunnel discovered by the IDF on the Gaza-Egypt border.
A series of at least five rockets was launched from southern Gaza, setting off sirens in several towns near Ashdod for the first time in months.
The Iron Dome intercepted some of the rockets, while others landed in open areas. The IDF confirmed one rocket struck the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council.
