The IDF has concluded its inquiry into the incident where gunshots were fired at the Gaza Strip during the Megillah reading and has issued a set of consequences for those involved. As a result of the findings, the company commander was relieved of his duties, while the platoon commander received a formal reprimand. Additionally, nine soldiers were removed from combat roles and given a 28-day confinement sentence.
The IDF described the incident as “serious and contrary to IDF values,” emphasizing that the conduct displayed in the video is unacceptable for soldiers in a combat setting. These decisions were reached after a comprehensive investigation carried out by the IDF.
The video that surfaced online showed reservists firing at Gaza whenever Haman’s name was mentioned during the Megillah reading.
It was revealed that the soldier reading from the Megillah was in a position that was exposed to the Gaza Strip and, in violation of orders, wore only a shirt and a clown hat instead of the required helmet and protective vest when near military positions. The reservists also posted the video on social media, showing their faces, which not only jeopardizes their safety but could also lead to criminal repercussions under international law.
