In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Israeli military forces carried out a targeted operation against high-ranking Hamas operatives who were entrenched within the Nasser Hospital complex in Khan Yunis.
According to a statement issued by the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, the site functioned as a strategic base for planning and executing attacks aimed at Israeli citizens and soldiers.
The army further revealed that Ismail Barhoum, who succeeded the head of Hamas’ governing authority in Gaza and oversaw the group’s financial and institutional branches, had been directing operations from this very hospital until his elimination in a previous precision strike in March.
“Senior Hamas officials continue to use the hospital for terrorist activity, through cynical and brutal use of the civilian population in the hospital and its surroundings,” the IDF stated.
The military emphasized that extensive precautions were implemented ahead of the strike to avoid civilian casualties. These included deploying guided weaponry, conducting real-time surveillance from the air, and utilizing actionable intelligence.
“The IDF and ISA will continue to operate against the Hamas terrorist organization in order to protect the civilians of the State of Israel,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit declared.
Palestinian Arab outlets reported that among those killed in the Khan Yunis strike was Hassan Aslih, a Gazan media figure. On October 7, Aslih had masqueraded as a journalist while live-streaming video of an Israeli tank engulfed in flames near the border.
