Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that the United States has “no authority” to dictate Iran’s foreign policy, following US President Donald Trump’s call for Tehran to cease its support for the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Araghchi expressed his views in a post on X, emphasizing that the “United States Government has no authority, or business, dictating Iranian foreign policy.”
The Foreign Minister also took the opportunity to urge the US to halt its actions in Yemen, specifically calling for an end to what he described as the “killing of Yemeni people.”
This statement follows the US’s military response over the weekend, where the United States launched extensive strikes on Yemen’s Houthi rebels, targeting their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.
In a response issued early Sunday, the Iran-backed Houthi group reported that at least 24 individuals had lost their lives, marking the beginning of a military campaign that is expected to continue for several more days.
