Israel has put forth a revised proposal to Hamas that would see 11 hostages freed on the first day of the deal, among them American citizen Edan Alexander, as part of a truce that would last for 40 days.
Furthermore, according to a high-ranking Israeli official who spoke to Haaretz, the country is insisting that Hamas release 16 hostages in total. In contrast, Hamas is suggesting a gradual release of captives over a 50-day ceasefire period.
As Israeli leadership waits to hear back from Hamas, Ynet reported that the IDF has begun executing a strategy to bolster its security presence throughout the Gaza Strip.
A defense source explained that the current military efforts do not require calling up more reserve soldiers than what was already planned: “This is the peak of military pressure on Hamas, just before a broad ground incursion,” said the source. “Hamas is suffering a significant blow here.”
According to the same source, this latest campaign is designed to ramp up pressure for the release of hostages and support the efforts of Steve Witkoff, the envoy of US President Donald Trump, in advancing his diplomatic plan.
Simultaneously, Israeli officials assess that Iran is currently exposed to vulnerability, and Israel is cooperating closely with the Trump administration regarding the threat posed by Iran’s terror network.
