The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office in Israel has announced that no more goods will be allowed to enter Gaza. This decision comes after Hamas rejected an American proposal, which Israel had agreed to, aimed at extending phase one of the ceasefire through Passover and Ramadan, along with additional hostage releases.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office explained, “With the end of Phase 1 of the hostage deal,” and given Hamas’s refusal to accept the proposal put forth by US special envoy Steve Witkoff — a proposal to which Israel had agreed — Prime Minister Netanyahu has decided that, effective immediately, no further goods or supplies will be allowed into Gaza.
The PMO also made it clear that, “Israel will not allow a ceasefire without the release of our hostages,” and warned of “further consequences” if Hamas continues to reject the proposed terms.
Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reports that the government believes enough aid has entered Gaza over the past few weeks to sustain Hamas for several months.
Last night, Israel revealed its adoption of the “Witkoff” plan, a proposal made public for the first time by the Prime Minister’s Office. According to Israel’s version of the plan, half of the remaining hostages, both alive and deceased, would be released on the first day of the ceasefire extension, with the remaining captives freed at the end of the period if a permanent ceasefire is agreed upon.
Terror groups in Gaza are currently holding 59 hostages, including the bodies of at least 35 individuals who have been confirmed dead by the Israel Defense Forces.
