The Jewish community in Argentina is shaken by the tragic murder of 28-year-old Magali Yael Levy, a member of the Buenos Aires Jewish community, who was killed in her home during a robbery over the weekend. Local law enforcement and prosecutors have initiated an investigation into the incident.
When officers arrived at the scene on Friday, they found Levy’s body. Argentine media reports suggest that the apartment had been looted, with valuables seemingly taken.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a woman recently employed as a housekeeper had entered the apartment on Friday, followed soon after by an unidentified man. The two were later seen fleeing the scene with bags, according to the authorities. Surveillance footage reportedly showed them leaving the building together.
“The investigation is ongoing to bring those responsible to justice,” sources familiar with the case told local media.
Rabbi Eliyahu Hamra, the president of Argentina’s Jewish community council and the rabbi of the AMIA congregation, expressed his deep sorrow over the murder. “We are in shock over the murder of Magali Yael Levy, 28, in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires,” he said. “We embrace her husband, Alberto Yoel Arazi, her father, Adrian Leon Levy, and her mother, Ileana Emilia Chayo, along with her entire family during this time of profound sorrow. We demand that authorities ensure those responsible for this horrific crime are prosecuted.”
