Trump merchandise continues to experience significant popularity, with no signs of slowing down. The latest addition to the collection is a white t-shirt featuring the bold phrase “GULF OF AMERICA!” This new shirt commemorates President Trump’s executive order signed on Monday, which mandates that the federal government now refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
On Friday, an email sent to supporters with the subject line “Do you live near the Gulf of Mexico?” humorously declares, “Friend, do you live near the Gulf of Mexico? Well, now you don’t! President Trump has officially renamed the Gulf of Mexico to GULF OF AMERICA!” The email, sent by “Caitlyn from Team Trump,” goes on to say, “To celebrate this historic moment for our nation, we’ve launched the OFFICIAL GULF OF AMERICA SHIRT. These shirts are flying off the shelves in record numbers so don’t walk — RUN!”
To acquire one of these shirts, a minimum contribution of $47 is required, with the proceeds benefiting the Trump National Committee JFC.
Trump’s executive order, titled “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness,” describes the Gulf as “an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation” and emphasizes its lasting importance. The order reads, “As such, within 30 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of the Interior shall, consistent with 43 U.S.C. 364 through 364f, take all appropriate actions to rename as the ‘Gulf of America’ the U.S. Continental Shelf area bounded on the northeast, north, and northwest by the States of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and extending to the seaward boundary with Mexico and Cuba in the area formerly named as the Gulf of Mexico.”
During a January 7 press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump enthusiastically endorsed the new name, saying, “The Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring,” Trump said. “The Gulf of America, what a beautiful name and it’s appropriate.”
