In a press conference Motzei Shabbos, Journalist Adi Cohen of i24 NEWS asked the Israeli Prime Minister a question regarding Israel’s strike in Gaza targeting Hamas’s #2 Mohammed Deif.
Cohen asked: “Does the decision not to notify the Americans before the operation express concern of opposition to the act?”
Bibi responded saying: “No, I have to tell you, I don’t understand it that way.”
However, Bibi continued, shockingly saying: “When we conduct such eliminations – first of all, the Americans know this is our policy – and by the way, it is also their policy. But – why should we risk something leaking out?
“Let’s say something leaks out. So Mohammed Deif and his deputy, the moment this leaks out, go underground or to a protected space, and the opportunity disappears.”
For the Israeli Prime Minister to suggest he can not inform the Americans of a secret strike to target a Hamas leader without fear of leaks is an astonishing admission.
At this time, it has not been officially confirmed if Deif was killed in the strike, with Bibi cautioning there is yet to be certainty that he was in fact killed. Deif survived multiple Israeli assassination attempts in the past.
