A pro-Trump super PAC, significantly funded by the billionaire Miriam Adelson, is preparing to roll out a $61 million ad campaign this month to potentially deal a severe blow to President Joe Biden’s struggling campaign, as reported by Politico on Monday.
An invigorated Preserve America will broadcast commercials this month coinciding with the start of the Summer Olympics in Paris, a source informed Politico. The ads are expected to target swing states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Reports from May indicated that Adelson was planning to significantly contribute to Preserve America, which was originally established during former President Donald Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign.
While it’s unclear how much Preserve America will depend on Adelson’s donations, sources mentioned to Politico in May that she plans to surpass the $90 million contributed in 2020 when she and her late husband accounted for 85% of Preserve America’s funding. Adelson is the widow of the late casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson, who passed away on January 11, 2021.
Preserve America aims to capitalize on the internal disputes within the Democratic Party that emerged after a presidential debate on June 27. Biden’s poll numbers have dropped, and several Democrats have urged him to step aside.
Adelson holds the majority shares of Las Vegas Sands and has significant ownership stakes in the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks with her son-in-law. According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, she has a net worth of $33.3 billion.
